The one where Reece learns about money....

Reece and I have a routine on "errand days", we usually stop at Jitterz Cafe for a diet soda for me and a "best-hot-chocolate-in-the-entire-world-with-whipped-cream" for him.  Well he now requests one EVERY time we leave the house and quite frankly I'm going broke buying my 5 year old $2.45 hot chocolate on a daily basis.  I told him he was going to have to start contributing....Momma's broke. So he agreed that he could start paying for some of his treats on his own (we agreed he could pay $2.00).  Before we left the house yesterday, there he stood cup-o-change in hand.  I decided to take this opportunity to do a smidge of a math lesson.  There were mostly dimes in his cup, so I explained to him that it took 10 dimes to make one dollar, and 20 dimes to make 2 dollars, 30 dimes to make 3 dollars and so on.  They are working on counting by 2, 5, and 10 in school right now, so I feel like super mom good reinforcing that.  So we take his money in a ziplock baggie to get that hot chocolate!  Then we are off to meet his teacher for school and he proudly tells her he paid for his own treat today!

Me:  Reecer tell your teacher what you learned about money today.
Reece:  I counted my own money for my own hot chocolate!!!
Me:  Ok, how many dimes does it take to equal 1 dollar?
Reece:  Ten dimes!
Me:  And how much money do you have when you have 20 dimes?
Reece:  Enough to by my very own small  best-hot-chocolate-in-the-entire-world-with-whipped-cream from Jitterz!!!!!!!!!

Lesson learned....I hope.
